Tonga's Ministry of Information and Communications in conjunction with the Prime Minister's Office of the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga, has issued a communiqué announcing its annual list of official non-working public holidays in Tonga for the upcoming calendar year 2021.

The aforementioned list of 2022 non-working public holidays in Tonga is in line with the "Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 2010" (Act No. 10 of 2010) which moves the date of some mid-week public holidays to the nearest Monday (2010-05-19 and 2010-04-08), as was the case for the past 8 years (2020-10-29, 2019-11-20, 2019-01-10, 2018-01-05, 2016-12-24, 2015-11-12, 2014-12-20 and 2014-01-02), but contrary to what happened in years before that (2013-01-04 and 2012-01-06).

Along with the announcement of the 2022 public holidays in Tonga, the Government of Tonga confirmed that Christmas 2021 and New Year 2022 public holidays would be observed on the actual days they fall on, "with no extra day allowed to observe the traditional public holidays", in line with the previously-announced list of 2021 public holidays in Tonga (2020-10-29).

Tonga government employees, however, will benefit from a 2-week period of public sector holidays, from Saturday, December 18, 2021, until Sunday, January 2, 2022, inclusively, as announced last month (2021-11-12).
