The Nepalese Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the publication, by the government of Nepal, in the Section 71) No. 48 Nepal Gazette Part 5 Date 2022/03/10, of the annual list of official non-working public holidays in Nepal for the Nepalese year B.S. 2079, which runs from April 2022 until April 2023.

The gazette publication of the list of Nepalese public holidays in the Nepalese year B.S. 2079 (सम्वत २०७९ सालको सार्वजनिक विदा सम्बन्धी सूचना), begins with the following preamble: "This notice has been published since the Nepal Government has decided to allocate public holidays, festivals and leaves and office time for the year 2079 BS (2022-2023 AD) from April 14, 2022 to the April 13, 2023 annually for all government offices and public bodies.".

In the list of BS 2079 public holidays, the current Nepalese government continues its practice of restoring many of the public holidays that were canceled, or made sectorial, by the previous Oli-led government (2022-03-01, 2022-02-01, 2021-12-29, 2021-12-24, 2021-11-08, 2021-04-23, 2021-02-12 and 2021-02-09). Recall that the previous Oli government canceled 12 public holidays and made a further 10 into sectorial public holidays, a few years ago (2018-03-31).

The 2079 public holidays for the Dashain and the Tihar festivals will be extended by a day each.

Otherwise, the BS 2079 public holidays follows the list of annual non-working public holidays in Nepal, as in previous years (2021-04-02, 2020-03-31, 2019-03-15, 2017-03-25, 2016-04-02, 2015-03-03, 2014-03-02, 2013-04-24, 2012-03-29 and 2012-01-30).
