The executive of Spain's Basque autonomous region (País Vasco) has announced its calendar of official regional public holidays for the upcoming calendar year 2023 (calendario laboral).

In 2023, the one-off, September 6, public holiday to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the conclusion of the first round the world sailing by Getaria navigator Juan Sebastian Elkano, will not be repeated (2021-05-21).

There will be a public holiday in 2023 on July 25 for Santiago Apostol, contrary to what happened some recent years (2020-05-09 and 2020-05-05).

July 25 was added to the list of Basque public holidays, a few years ago (2015-07-01), to side-step the debate (2013-12-12, 2013-12-03, 2013-11-15, 2013-10-30, 2013-06-08 and 2013-05-26) on the October 25, Basque regional public holiday, added 11 years ago (2010-04-23).

After appearing in the list of Basque public holidays for 3 consecutive years (2020-05-05, 2019-04-01 and 2018-04-04), the March 19, San José, public holiday will not be included in Spain's Basque autonomous region public holidays in 2023, as had been the case before that (2021-05-04, 2017-04-26, 2016-05-11 and 2016-04-19).

The second regional 2023 public holiday in Spain's Basque autonomous region will be Easter Monday.
