The Paraguayan minister of the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur), Sofía Montiel, has announced that the government was analyzing the possibility of moving the upcoming May 15 Independence Day and Mother's Day public holiday from Sunday, May 15, 2022, to Monday, May 16, 2022, for the sake of "economic issues typical of domestic tourism".

We are, however, doubtful that this will pass and, indeed, minister Montiel did specify that "the issue will be analyzed by the Legal Department of the Executive Power, taking into account that according to the regulations there are some holidays that cannot be mobile".

Last year, under partially similar circumstances, the Paraguayan government has announced that the then upcoming May 14-15 Independence Day public holidays would be observed on Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, 2021, and that neither public holiday would be moved due to the coinciding weekend (2021-05-06).

A similar announcement had been made, 4 years ago (2018-05-01), when the Paraguayan head of presidential decrees, Édgar Rodas, released a communique confirming that May 14 was a permanent part of the list of dates of the Paraguayan public holidays, as per law 4.531.

Paraguayan public holidays legislation is clear on the matter of the annual May 14 and 15 public holidays ("son inamovibles, por una cuestión legislativa"), but it seems that there is a need for a government clarification, almost every year (2019-04-23, 2018-05-01, 2016-04-09, 2014-04-29, 2013-04-08, 2012-04-12, 2011-11-30, 2011-05-10, 2011-03-11, 2011-01-29, 2011-01-12, 2010-05-13).
