The Governor of Saint Helena, Philip Rushbrook, in his additional role as Governor of Ascension, has published the extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 3 which declares Monday, June 13, 2022, as a public holiday on Ascension Island, to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday, which falls on a Saturday in 2022.
The relevant parts of the extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 3 states that "the official birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, 11 June 2022, is observed as a public holiday " while "11 June 2022 falls on a Saturday and section 2(3) of that Ordinance provides that if a Public Holiday other than Christmas Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Governor shall, by Proclamation, direct that either the preceding Friday or the following Monday be observed as a Public Holiday in lieu of that Saturday or Sunday" and therefore that "I, Philip Rushbrook, Governor of Ascension, acting in accordance with section 2(3) of the Public Holidays Ordinance, 1945, direct that Monday, 13 June 2022 shall be observed as a public holiday".
Last month, Governor Rushbrook had published the extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 139 which declares Friday, June 3, 2022, as a public holiday on Ascension Island, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee (2021-12-22), similarly to what he had done the month before that, in the extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 121 which declared Friday, June 3, 2022, as a public holiday in Saint Helena (2021-11-02).
There are differences between the public holidays on Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha, thus the need to issue the extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 121 and extraordinary gazette EX GAZ 139.
