Background Information

Weekends are Fridays and Saturdays.  Normal Business Hours: Fridays and Saturdays government offices, banks and most offices are closed. Government departments are open from 08:00 to 15:00 daily, Sunday to Thursday.  Ramadan Business Hours: Working hours for public agencies in Jordan are customarily reduced to 09:00 to 14:00. during the month of Ramadan, instead of 08:00 to 15:00 during the rest of the year. Private businesses also adjust their working day during the fasting month.  In January 2007, Jordan's King Abdullah II instructed the government to scrap both royal public holidays: the The King's Birthday (January 30) and late King Hussein's birthday (November 14) in a bid to boost productivity in the kingdom .  Christmas is an official public holiday in Jordan since 1956 .  Jordan International Codes JO and JOR (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .jo (ICANN national top-level internet domain).
