Background Information

Governing Law: The list and dates of the official public holidays in Venezuela are regulated by Article 185 of the LOTTT "Ley Orgánica del Trabajo, los Trabajadores y las Trabajadoras" which amended the Ley de Fiestas Nacionales de 17 de junio de 1971 which had itself replaced the earlier Ley de Fiestas Nacionales de 11 de junio de 1921.  Banks and financial establishments usually close the Monday after a non-national public holiday, such as All Saints' Day, but the Consejo Bancario Nacional reserves the right to make last minute changes.  Día de la Resistencia Indígena was decreed to replace Día de la Raza, by Presidential Decree Nº 2028 of October 10, 2002.  Venezuela International Codes VE and VEN (2 and 3-letter ISO3166 codes) and .ve (ICANN national top-level internet domain). • Other Sources of Information The following specialized websites are also a good source of Venezuela information and news: Central Bank of Venezuela (Venezuela central bank), UnitedHealthcare Global (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (Venezuela maps, demographics and economic statistics), the IFES (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and voter participation in Venezuela), and Wikipedia (includes Venezuela commemorative dates that are not necessarily public holidays).
