Tokens are codes, enclosed in a pair of braces [], which are converted into date-related information when an output file is generated, as shown in the above example.

 

Each token represents a specific way of looking at, and displaying, a date and the information that relates to that date. The structure of a token supplies the information needed to determine the date, language, holidays, ... to be used to convert it.

Any attributes applied to the token in the GridTemplate in QuarkXPress or InDesign will automatically be the attributes of the resulting output.

Tokens are usually placed in a GridTemplate, but it is also possible to use them inside some of the script line properties, such as MonthHeaders and GenTokens.
