Governing Law: Official public holidays in Liechtenstein are regulated by Sections 18-(2) of the Labour Act of 29 Dec. 1966, as amended in 1969 (Liechtensteinisches Landesgesetzblatt, 1970-02-11), in 1982 (Order to amend the Order respecting Sunday rest and public holidays and opening hours and closing times of shops; Liechtensteinisches Landesgesetzblatt, 1982-12-30), and 1987 (Order of 9 June 1987 amending the Order under the Unemployment Insurance Act [LGBl. 1969 No. 41]; Liechtensteinisches Landesgesetzblatt, 1987-07-09, No. 23, p. 1-2).
Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that occur on a weekend remain on that date (ie. they are not moved to another date, such as the following Monday, for example).
Saint Berchtolds' Day (January 2) was made a bank holiday in Liechtenstein beginning in 1978.

Observance : Any entry in the Observance column indicates that, in Liechtenstein, the holiday may be regional or non-official or limited to certain religious and/or linguistic groups, or begin at a time other than midnight. Note that religious holidays are included only if they are national public holidays, or if the national labour code has specific holiday allowances for employees of specific religions. For more information, see our pages on the religious calendars of the world. |
