Governing Law: The list and dates of official public holidays in Dominica are regulated by the Public Holidays Act 1907 (amended in 1961 and 1990), Shop Hours Act (1937), the Labour Standards Act (1977), and the Labour Contracts Act (1983).
National Repentance and Dedication Day: This holiday, celebrated annually on April 8, was created in 2005, following the consecutive death in office of 2 Prime Ministers. However, this is not a public holiday (despite many online sources claiming so).
Carnival Tuesday: Although Carnival Tuesday is listed in the 1990 revision of the Dominica Public Holidays Act, it seems to be only observed by banks. |
