Bhutan Codifies Public Holidays On Election Days

(Posted on Saturday, September 1, 2007)

Source: Bhutan Draft Election Bill (Thimpu)

The recently released draft to the Bhutan Election Bill would enshrine into law the principle of declaring public holidays on the date of any future election to Parliament or Local Government (Chapter 17, Article 327).

Earlier this year, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), announced that next year's parliamentary elections would occur on a weekday which would be declared as a public holiday (02-May-2007).
