The Government of Cuba decreed 2 new annual public holidays, December 31 and January 2, to take effect immediately (Decreto Ley No. 254 del 18 de septiembre de 2007).
The date of January 2nd had sometimes been declared as a one-off public holiday (20-Dec-2006), but the aforementioned decree now makes it an annual public holiday, as enshrined in the Decreto Ley 254 del año 2007.
