The General Workers’ Union said the government should honour what it was told by the International Labour Organisation on public holidays falling on weekends, and change the position at law to how it stood before 2005.
Recall that, beginning in 2005 (15-Jan-2005), employees are no longer granted extra days’ leave in compensation for public holidays falling on a weekend.
Apparently, the General Workers’ Union feels that the government made some promises on the subject of day in lieu public holidays, during its recent discussions with the government (20-Sep-2005).
