Nicaragua Tinkers With Upcoming Public Holidays Again

(Posted on Thursday, November 6, 2008)

In what is the third modification this week, the Ministry of Labour of Nicaragua (MITRAB) has announced that it was rescinding ordinances JCHG-013-11-08 and JCHG-012-11-08, relative to the public holidays for the upcoming municipal elections. Friday, November 7, 2008, will be a public holiday for civil servants only, while Monday, November 10, 2008, will remain a full paid public holiday for all.

Under ordinance JCHG-012-11-08 of November 2 (see 04-Nov-2008) the 3 days of Friday, Saturday, Monday, November, 7, 8, and 10, would have been public holidays for both the private and public sector, with full pay.

The later ordinance JCHG-013-11-08 (05-Nov-2008) did not change the non-working status of any of the 3 days, but did make the November 7th and 8th, non-woring days to be compensated by yearly vacation.
