Saturday, August 22, 2009, has been announced as the date of the 1st day of this year's month of Ramadan and its associated public holiday.
As a consequence, we expect Sunday, September 20, 2009, to be confirmed as the date of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday in Afghanistan, in line with the dates so far announced by Kyrgyzstan (05-Aug-2009), Azerbaijan (05-Aug-2009), Egypt (02-Aug-2009) and the ISNA, for Muslims in Canada and the USA (02-Aug-2009).
Afghanistan is one of the rare countries where the first day of the month of Ramadan is a public holiday.
