Australia's New South Wales Industrial Relations Minister, John Hatzistergos, has announced a review into public holidays that fall on a weekend. The review will be headed by law Professor, Joellen Riley, and the report is due in October 2009.
The review seems to have been triggered by the recent confusion in many states as to what would happen in 2009, when the ANZAC Day public holiday fell on a Saturday (18-Feb-2009 and 18-Apr-2009).
A commission is meant to have settled the issue of the ANZAC Day public holiday, once and for all (15-Jan-2009), but, day in lieu issues for other public holidays, also arise regularly (26-Jan-2009), though less frequently than a few years ago (14-Mar-2004, 08-Jan-2003, 03-Jan-2003, and many more in the period of 2000-2004).
