The government of Australia's State of New South Wales (NSW) has received an intermediate options paper as part of the review into public holidays that fall on a weekend.
One of the first recommendations to come out of the interim report, commissioned last spring (31-May-2009), is that Easter Sunday should be named a public holiday under special legislation that would give NSW workers the right to refuse to work.
The review has also found wide support for a new law covering public holidays to avoid the annual confusion for employers and workers about when and if substitute days off are granted. Recall that, in the past, the government of NSW often had to confirm or infirm day in lieu public holidays (see, for example: 18-Feb-2009, 14-Mar-2004, 08-Jan-2003, and 17-Aug-2001).
