The Industrial Relations Minister of the Australian state of South Australia, Paul Caica, has announced that shops would not be allowed to open on December 26, 2009, even though December 26 is not listed as a public holiday this year.
South Australia's shops will be able to open on Sunday, December 20, and on Sunday, December 27, 2009, from 9am instead of the usual 11am. In other states, including NSW and Victoria, the day after Christmas is regarded as one of the most important shopping days of the year.
