The chief of the organizing department of Caucasian Muslims, Haji Fuad Nurulla, has announced that the upcoming month of Ramadan will begin, in Azerbaijan, on Saturday, August 22, 2009.
The date announced for the beginning of the month of Ramadan in Azerbaijan corresponds to the date already announced by Egypt (02-Aug-2009) and the ISNA, for Muslims in Canada and the USA (02-Aug-2009).
Based on the details of the calculation leading to the date of August 22 start of Ramadan, we expect that the End of Ramadan (Eid al-Fitr) public holiday date will be confirmed as Sunday, September 20, 2009.
In principle, the 2-day public holiday is not compensated if it begins on a Sunday, but in the past, the government of Azerbaijan has declared a one-off public holiday to compensate one of the Ramazan Bayram dates falling on a weekend (10-Oct-2007).
