Azerbaijan Declares September 22 Public Holiday

(Posted on Tuesday, September 1, 2009)

Azerbaijan's Cabinet of Ministers has confirmed that Tuesday, September 22, 2009, would be an additional day in lieu non-working public holiday in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan will therefore enjoy 4 consecutive days of End of Ramadan public holidays, from Saturday, September 19, to Tuesday, September 22, 2009.

Last month, the government of Azerbaijan had announced that the End of Ramadan public holidays would be officially celebrated on the two days of September 20-21, only (13-Aug-2009).

The Cabinet justified today's decision based on the fact that the first day of Ramadan public holidays (September 20) falls on Sunday, this year. In the past, occurrences of one of the End of Ramadan public holidays falling on a weekend sometimes gave rise to an additional day in lieu public holiday (10-Oct-2007), but not systematically.
