Bahamas To Amend Public Holidays Act

(Posted on Saturday, November 21, 2009)

Source: Government of the Bahamas (Nassau)

The Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Hubert Ingraham, has tabled an amendment to the Bahamas Public Holidays Act, designating Monday, December 28th, 2009, as this year's official Boxing Day public holiday.

As a consequence, Saturday, December 26th, 2009, will be observed as a normal day for those businesses and agencies that usually open on Saturdays.

Note that, contrary to what many online source assume, normally, if Boxing Day falls on a Saturday, there is no day in lieu given on the following Monday (hence the aforementioned need to introduce legislation to amend the Public Holidays Act, for this year).
