The Prefect of Brazil's Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Eduardo Paes, has declared an unpaid public sector holiday (ponto facultativo), on Friday, October 2, 2009, for all municipal and state public sector employees, to allow them to participate in that day's Olympics 2016 Selection party.

The decree, signed by Prefect Paes, was published last Friday in the Diário Oficial do Município, and is expected to be signed tomorrow at the State level by Rio de Janeiro State (RJ) Governor Sérgio Cabral.

The party will start at 10:30 local time at the mythical Copacabana beach, where giant screens will display, live, at 13:30, the announcement from Copenhagen of the city that will host the 2016 summer Olympics. The other contending cities are: Chicago, Madrid, and Tokyo.
