Bulgaria's Parliament has voted against a proposal to declare August 23 as an annual national public holiday and non-working day.
The bill, sponsored by the rightist Blue Coalition, joined by the ethnic Turkish DPS party, would have recognized August 23 as the day on which Bulgaria would honor the victims of Nazism and Stalinism.
