Bulgaria Declares December 31 Public Holiday

(Posted on Wednesday, December 2, 2009)

Source: Sofia News Agency (Novinite)

Earlier today, the Bulgarian government announced that it had decided to declare New Year’s Eve, on December 31, 2009, as a national non-working public holiday, thus creating a 4-day public holidays period.

As was the case in a similar announcement last year (21-Nov-2008 and 11-Nov-2008), the government has declared the nearby Saturday, December 19th, 2009, as a regular working day. In the same communique, the Bulgarian government confirmed the four-day Christmas public holidays, from December 24-27, inclusively.

In a separate communique, the Bulgarian Stock Exchange (BSE) announced that its last trading day in 2009 would be December 28 and that trading on the BSE would resume on Monday, January 4, 2010.
