The government of Canada's Province of Prince Edward Island has introduced Bill No. 72, An Act to Amend the Islander Day Act, which would amend the Employment Standards Act to change the date of the Islander Day annual public holiday to the third Monday in February.
When the Islander Day public holiday was announced (06-Apr-2008) and voted into law (27-Nov-2008) its observance was specified to be the second Monday in February.
As a result of this bill (which in all likelihood will be approved), the PEI Islander Day public holiday will be observed the same day as Family Day in Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, and Louis Riel Day in Manitoba.
Both Ontario and Manitoba added their provincial public holiday on the third Monday of February, starting last year (11-Oct-2007 and 26-Sep-2007).
