Fiji Employers Federation President, Digby Bosley, has said that Fiji loses millions every year due to the 12 public holidays celebrated in the country, and that the FEF believes the National Youth Day public holiday is something that can be removed.
Responding to that statement, Fiji Public Service Association (FPSA) General Secretary, Rajeshwar Singh, rejected this call, first made by Mr. Bosley during the 2010 budget consultations, when he called on the government to seriously review the number of public holidays in Fiji.
Recall that the National Youth Day public holiday was supposed to have been canceled 2002 (06-Jan-2002), but that it has nonetheless been included in all official public holidays announcements since (03-Jun-2009, 21-May-2008, and 29-Mar-2007).
