Over the past weekend, the Finnish Evangelical-Lutheran Church synod drafted a proposal calling on the Finnish government to restore Whit Monday as an official non-working public holiday in Finland.
Whit Monday was removed from Finland's official list of non-working public holidays in 1992, and restoring it would require an amendment of the Church Act 1993.
Neighboring Sweden also removed Whit Monday from its official list of non-working public holidays, albeit more recently (30-Apr-2004).
