Late last night, Gabon's Minister of Labor, Employment, Social Security and Social Relations, announced that the Gabonese Government had declared Thursday, June 11, and Tuesday, June 16, 2009, as one-off public holidays.
The former date is to coincide with the return to Gabon of late president Omar Bongo Ondimba's remains, while the latter date is the date when dignitaries from many nations are expected to attend President Bongo’s funeral.
In related news, yesterday, neighboring Benin declared a 3-day mourning period to highlight the cordial relations between the two countries (10-Jun-2009).
