Ghana's President, John Atta Mills, has announced that despite the win of Ghana's national football team in yesterday's final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt, he would not declare a one-off public holiday to mark the occasion.
This laid to rest rumours that started immediately after the game, as public holidays to celebrate football victories are common in Africa (19-Jun-2006, 09-Oct-2005, and 12-Oct-2008) and other parts of the world (03-Apr-2009, 10-Sep-2009, and 14-Oct-2009).
