Ghana's Secretary at the Office of the Interior Minister, Cecelia Pearl Agbezudor, has re-stated that only Monday, September 21, 2009, had been declared a public holiday, for both the celebration of Dr Kwame Nkrumah's birthday and the Eid-ul Fitr celebration.
Secretary Agbezudor was reacting to numerous claims and counter claims on some radio stations in Accra stating that Tuesday September 22 was also a holiday in addition Monday, September 21.
Earlier this week, Ghana's Minister of the Interior, Cletus Avoka, had issued a statement declaring Monday, September 21, 2009, a statutory public holiday on account of this year's Eid-ul Fitr celebration (15-Sep-2009), while the Founder's Day public holiday, commemorating the birth of Ghana’s First President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, announced last year (20-Feb-2009) was officially confirmed at the beginning of this month (03-Sep-2009).
