Following this weekend's declaration by the speaker of Honduras' Parliament, Ramón Velásquez, there has been widespread confusion that today, November 2nd, 2009, would be an official public holiday, which is not the case.
The confusion comes from an interview given by deputy , in which he says that "El lunes es Día de Difuntos y debo atender compromisos en mi pueblo" (Monday is Day of the Dead and I have commitments in my precinct) which all local newspapers, rather rashly, converted to the headline "Congreso verá caso Zelaya después del feriado" (Congress will consider the Zelaya matter after the public holiday).
In fact, November 2nd, All Souls' Day (or Día de Difuntos) has been a de-facto public holiday for a few years, now, but only the legislative branch (el Congreso Nacional).
