Earlier tonight, the chairman of Indonesia's Calculation and Observation Agency, KH Hadi Abdul Fatah, announced that the new moon had been sighted, and as a consequence, the government of Indonesia declared that this year's Idul Fitri would fall on Sunday, September 20, 2009.
This announcement of sightings at Pelabuhan Ratu, Sukabumi, and at the Grand Mosque in Semarang, is in line with the MABIMS method of crescent sighting calculation used in Indonesia, and does not affect the public holidays declared last year for September 21-23 (10-Jun-2008).
