Governor Amal al-Din al-Hir has announced that the government of Iraq's Karbala province has approved a proposal by the executive to make today, Thursday, August 6, 2009, an official holiday in all state departments of the province of Karbala.
This public holiday was declared on the occasion of al-Ziyara al-Shaabaniya, which commemorates the birth of the Messiah-like Imam al-Mahdi, the 12th holiest figure for Shiite Muslims.
