Jersey's Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, has introduced legislation that would make Monday, May 10, 2010, a one-off day in lieu public holiday, to compensate the fact that next year's Liberation Day public holiday falls on a Sunday.
The 2009 Liberation Day public holiday also fell on a weekend, and in that context, government and public sector workers in Jersey were afforded a day in lieu public sector holiday on Monday, May 11, 2009, but this only applied to the public sector (17-Feb-2009).
Recall that, over the last 15 years, the States of Jersey have always ruled that there would be no day in lieu public holiday, on Monday, May 10, whenever similar circumstances arose (16-Mar-2004 and 09-Apr-1999).
Neighboring Guernsey, for its part, has already declared the day after next year's Liberation Day public holiday, Monday, May 10th, 2010, an additional official public holiday (14-Oct-2009 and 11-Sep-2009).
