Earlier today, the government of Kazakhstan gazetted the governmental order 1936, declaring Friday, December 18, 2009, a one-off bridge public holiday.
This means that Kazakhstan will get 4 consecutive days of public holidays, from Wednesday, December 16 (Independence Day, observed by a 2-day public holiday), until Saturday, December 19, 2009.
As has traditionally been the case (21-Apr-2008 and 28-Nov-2007), this bridge public holiday will be compensated by declaring a weekend day as a regular working day (in the present case, Sunday, December 20, 2009).
Note that such declarations are not systematic,. Last year, Kazakhstan announced that it would not exchange any working days to link the December 16-17 Independence Day public holidays to the December 13-14 weekend (12-Dec-2008).
