Earlier today, Kenya's President, Mwai Kibaki, declared Tuesday, August 25, 2009, as a, one-off, census public holiday.
Kenya's National Census 2009 will run from Monday, August 24, until Monday, August 31, 2009. Other African countries have also, in the past, declared a public holiday to coincide with the launch of a national census (see, for example: 18-Jun-2008 and 19-Mar-2008).
