Muslims in Kenya are left unsure when to celebrate the upcoming Idd-ul-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) holiday, as Kenya's Chief Kadhi, Sheikh Hammad Kassim, has announced that the he had settled on Friday, November 27, while the chairman of the Moon sighting committee, Sheikh Hajj Mussa Sodha, and his vice-chairman, Sheikh Khatwab Khalifa, have said the Idd would be on Saturday, November 28, 2009.

Two years ago, the Government of Kenya gazetted Idd-ul-Adha as a new public holiday (14-Dec-2007). The year after, despite President Mwai Kibaki's promise to make it an annual public holiday (06-Nov-2007), the government announced that the 2007 declaration of a public holiday for the Idd-ul-Adha had been a one-off affair (04-Dec-2008).
