Liberia Declares November 10 Electoral Public Holiday

Liberia's President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has issued a Proclamation declaring Tuesday, November 10, 2009, as a one-off regional public holiday, on account of that day's Montserrado County senatorial by-election.

Based on the fact that Montserrado County hosts the seat of the national government of Liberia and has a voting population of over 400,000, the National Elections Commission (NEC) had requested government to declare November 10, 2009, a non-working public holiday for Montserrado County.

Last year (19-Mar-2008), the first day of the national census had also been declared a one-off public holiday.
