Malawi's Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Patrick Kabambe, has announced that the government of Malawi had declared Tuesday, May 19, 2009, a public holiday on the occasion of this year's Parliamentary and Presidential Elections.
The Minister did point out that May 19 would only be a public holiday this year, on account of the elections.
Presumably he was concerned that people would think that May 19 had been declared an annual public holiday as had recently been the May 14 Kamuzu Day public holiday (10-Apr-2008).
In addition, the government had earlier been forced to deny earlier rumours that May 18 would be declared a public holiday (17-May-2009).
