The Chief Minister of Malaysia's State of Pulau Pinang, Lim Guan Eng, has announced that he was considering declaring a one-off state public holiday on the date of the Permatang Pasir by-election, Tuesday, August 25, 2009.

Another one-off electoral public holiday was declared in Kelantan, last month, on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, on account of the Manik Urai state seat by-election (13-Jul-2009).

And, a year ago, almost day-for-day, Penang State Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, had declared Tuesday, August 26, 2008, as a one-off, public holiday throughout the State of Penang, on the occasion of the Permatang Pauh by-election (24-Aug-2008).
