Following a request from the Maldives' Elections Commission, President Nasheed has declared that Sunday, May 10, 2009, would be a public holiday throughout the Maldives.
Note that the actual first parliamentary elections will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009, but as weekends in the Maldives are Fridays and Saturdays, May 9 is already a non-working day.
