Namibia's Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana, has finally, and officially, confirmed that the Government Cabinet had decided that there was no need to declare Friday, November 27, 2009, the date of the upcoming presidential and general elections, a public holiday.
Namibia's President is allowed to declare any date as a one-off public holiday, as per Article 32 (5)(a) of the Namibian Constitution, and as such there had been widespread rumours (12-Sep-2009) that Friday, November 27, 2009, would be declared a one-off public holiday on the occasion of these upcoming elections (21-Oct-2009).
