Yesterday afternoon, Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, Jeanette Chávez Gómez, issued a communique declaring that Monday, November 2nd, 2009, would be a full-day public holiday for both the private and public sectors.
Usually, in Nicaragua, the annual All Souls' Day public holiday only applies to the afternoon of November 2nd.
This loosening of public holidays, with what is in effect, a half-day bridge public holiday, is in line with recent cases when Nicaragua's Ministry of Labour declared a day in lieu public holiday, last summer (15-Jul-2009), and last year (07-Sep-2008), despite the fact that Nicaragua does not, normally, observe day in lieu public holidays.
