Oman Finally Announces National Day Public Holidays

Oman's ruling monarch, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, has finally announced the dates for this year's National Day public holidays.

As per a ministerial decision issued by Oman's Minister of Manpower, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al Bakri, the National Day public holidays for the private sector will start on Saturday, November 28, and last until Wednesday, December 2, 2009.

A separate decision on government holidays, issued by Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Ali Bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, announced that the public holidays for the two occasions (the Eid Al Adha and the 39th National Day) would, for employees working at the ministries, public authorities and other departments of the State administrative apparatus, start on Saturday, November 28, and last until Wednesday, December 2. But due to the Thursday-Friday weekends of the public sector this means that the public sector will not be back to work until Saturday, December 5, 2009.

Likewise, as Friday, November 27, 2009, the first day of the Eid al-Adha, falls on a weekly day of rest, neither the private nor the public sectors will work on Friday, November 27, 2009.

Recall that the date of Oman's National Day, November 18-19, is by tradition a regular working day (18-Nov-2009), and that the actual dates of the corresponding public holidays dates are always announced at the last minute for a later date (17-Nov-2008, 13-Nov-2007, and 16-Nov-2006).
