Oman Announce Islamic New Year Public Holiday

Oman's Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud al-Busaidi, has issued a circular declaring a day in lieu public sector holiday at ministries, public authorities and other departments of the State administrative apparatus, on Saturday, December 19, 2009, on the occasion of the "Holy Prophet's Hijra Anniversary" [sic] and advent of the Hijiri new year 1431 AH.

The actual date of the Islamic New Year 1431 is Friday, December 18, 2009, which is part of Oman's Thursday/Friday weekends.

Last year (22-Dec-2008), Oman's public sector got 3 days of public holidays, from Monday to Wednesday, December 29-31, 2008, on the occasion of the Hijri new year 1430, and the GCC summit.
