Panama Could Move More Public Holidays

Panama's Parliamentary Labour Commission has approved, in first reading, Bill 510, which would modify Article 46 of Panama's Labour Code and extend the number of Panamanian public holidays whose date is fixed by the días puentes method.

In late 2007, Law 351 was approved, moving the date of the public holidays associated with January 9 and November 28 (30-Dec-2007).

Under the system of días puentes, in the years when these dates fall on a Tuesday or Wednesday, then the corresponding public holiday is the Monday before, while it is the Monday after, when the dates fall on a Thursday or Friday.

The current bill, which is slated for expedited consideration (el cual pasará a segundo debate con carácter de urgencia notoria), would add the November 5, Colon Day, public holiday, to the list of public holidays that follow the días puentes system.
