Philippines' President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (PGMA), has declared Wednesday, August 5, 2009, as a one-off special non-working public holiday, on the day of the funeral of the late former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino.

Yesterday, as soon as the news of the former President's death was announced, President Arroyo had declared that same day (August 1st) as a national day mourning (but not a public holiday) for the passing away of former President Corazon Aquino.

A day later, Deputy presidential spokeswoman, Lorelei Fajardo, says that President Arroyo has declared August 5 as a one-off special non-working public holiday "para sa mga gusto mag-pay ng last respects at sumama sa libing" (for Filipinos who want to pay their last respects and join the funeral procession and burial).

In addition, Malacanang has announced that President Arroyo had signed Proclamation 1850, declaring a period of national mourning from August 1-10, with all Philippine flags flying at half mast.
