As typhoon Morakot approached, the government of Taiwan has declared Friday, August 7, 2009, a "typhoon holiday" to prevent typhoon-related accidents.
The Taiwan authorities have advised that all financial institutions including the stock exchange and the foreign exchange market in Taipei will be closed.
In addition, local government has announced a public holiday for schools and offices in Taipei City and Keelung on Friday, August 7, 2009.
