Turkey's parliament has approved the bill declaring May 1st an annual public holiday, effective starting in 2009, and giving it the official name "Labor and Solidarity Day".
This follows a decision by Turkey's Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who ordered the Minister of Employment and Social Security to announce May 1st as a public holiday, earlier this month (09-Apr-2009).
May 1st was a public holiday in Turkey, called "Spring Day" from 1935 to 1980.
