The governor of Turkey's capital, Istanbul, Muammer Güler, announced yesterday that schools in Istanbul would be closed on Friday, October 30, 2009 to disinfect the buildings, in the face of the rapidly spreading H1N1 influenza.
The one-day holiday will provide a four-day disinfection period as it coincides with Thursday. October 29, which is already an annual national public holiday. Many other Turkish regions have already declared, or are expected to declare, similar measures.
